The youth: what must be going on in their thoughts? How are their emotions being affected with the issues that we are all facing? I have concerns about the situation in our nation, the world, and the constant rise in overdose deaths. Add to an already hurting world a plague, threats of war, and financial troubles that the majority are feeling, then you have all the ingredients for increased mental health issues stemming from fear, the lack of security, and a decrease in available resources to address these with. To be clear, our kids are already dealing with the same fears and confusion that the rest of the world is, and then we adults add our stress to our kids and that increases the lack of security they must be feeling.
Here at The Brook Wellness Center, we have added some youth specific classes to help these adolescents find support. These classes and groups are targeted at helping identify and ease some of the stresses involved in these traumatic times. These classes will also address the relevant issues that our teens are dealing with like drugs, sexual peer pressures, and social anxiety. The goal of these classes is to empower themselves to be the change they want to see.
